Definition
Enlightenment originated in England. The Age of Enlightenment was a movement that began in the late seventeenth century. It was defined by the many intellectual ideas that arose during the time. During this time there were many renowned historical figures that arose including: Descartes, Pascal, Bayle, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Diderot and Rousseau. The Age of Enlightenment can also be referred to as the Age of Reason. The period of Enlightenment influenced most of Europe. There was also an increase in the diversity and quantity of the arts at the time.
