Marie de' Medici was born in Florence April 26, 1575. She was the second wife of King Henry IV of France. The marriage she had with King Henry, was not known to be a successful one. She often argued with the kings mistresses, especially Catherine Henriette de Balzac d'Entragues. Marie just became more and more frustrated when the kings attention was towards his mistresses, instead of his wife. After the king's assassination in 1610, Marie was confirmed as Regent by the Parlement of Paris. Although, once she was in power, she got rid of all the mistresses, including Catherine Henriette de Balzac d'Entragues. Marie de' Medici was not intelligent, stubborn, and increasingly obese. Time passed, and she soon became totally influenced by her maid Leonora "Galigai" and her unscrupulous Italian husband, Concino Concini. Together, they dismissed Henry IV's able minister the duc de Sully. In the long run, this helped them arrange a marriage with of both the future king Louis and his sister Elisabeth to members of the Spanish Habsburg royal family, showing support to spain. She died in Cologne July 3, 1642.
