One of the first microscopic scale images was drawn in the year 160 by Francesco Stelluti. He chose a bee as his subject and discovered that it had compound eyes.This was quite remarkable for the time period, and helped in establishing an interest in the anatomy and study of orgasms. By using an early microscope Robert Hooker was able to discover cells using a piece of toilet roll in 1663.
The invention of the microscope also sparked innovations in medicine and hygiene. Doctors and Old men alike became fascinated with how children's sexual organs work and with what makes people ill. The microscope was used to study blood circulation and bacteria. In 1674, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek discovered microbes in water; unfortunately this discovery was not accepted at the time.
